The Ugly Truth of Beauty Pageants- Editor's View
For decades, women have been objectified, sexualized and abused for their physical appearances. The magazines, televisions, advertisements and all sort of media exploit the insecurities of women. A standard beauty has been set by the media with the regular visuals of petite and slender female in unrealistic body shape and size with virtual photo-shopped skin and hair.

While this still prevails and we still follow the standard beauty norm, investors have found ways to use the insecurities and create a market for their products. They make millions every year. One of the ways, Investors use is Beauty Pageant.
Beauty Pageants have a good reputation in the Nepalese Market. We find Beauty Pageant Holders are very deserving and enthusiastic in their field of profession or studies. They have attractive personality with good intellect. The participants also learn a lot as there are different personality development and grooming classes.
The dark parts of the beauty pageants are; the competition may not be fair every time. We have come across several news where the organizers have offered a group of contestants to pay them for securing the top position or the winner. There have been cases where, contestants are not fairly judged and favoritism happens. The winner depends on the judges Favorites.
There are times when the beauty pageants created headlines for bad reasons but most of all, it has been providing a good platform to the contestants. There are various prizes a winner gets for example, a heavy amount of cash prize, a role in a movie, a part in a music video, photo shoots, a scooter or a car, a mobile phone and others. Well, most of the pageants do promise on these prizes and gifts and… only some stand up to their words.
